‘Stories from the waterside’ event and website launch

News

LAWPRO is delighted to launch a new website dedicated to Stories from the waterside.  This launch will take place during an online event on 02 February at 7:00pm. Anyone can attend the event by registering at

https://bit.ly/3p0fLHp

Stories from the waterside was a writing competition held last May during Lockdown. LAWPRO received almost 500 stories from across the island of Ireland and even further afield from Irish living abroad.

This new website will archive all those stories, celebrating local connections with Ireland’s magical waters. It will also be a platform to record any stories about water received in the future.

Some authors will read their stories at this informal event hosted by popular radio presenter Jim Finn. There will be conversation about the background to the stories and people’s connections with local water bodies and nature. The event will also mark World Wetlands Day 2021.

Stories from the waterside was a collaboration between LAWPRO (Local Authority Waters Programme), The Heritage Council and the Heritage Officer Programme, Waterways Ireland, and Inland Fisheries Ireland.

☘️St Patricks Day Poster Hunt☘️

As there will be no St Patrick’s Day Parades this year due to Covid 19, Kildare Community 4 Climate Action (KC4CA) have come up with a great activity for families in the county. They are having a poster hunt. In the bigger towns the posters will be displayed inside shop or business windows. In some of the smaller villages they will be in house windows or in outdoor places around the town.

There are 12 posters in total for you to find. They have been designed by Kildare 4 Communities 4 Climate Action group themselves and have a nature, biodiversity or action-oriented theme.

The hunt includes a challenge; on each poster there is a picture of a native Irish bird, plant or animal. You will have to identify the bird/plant/animal in the picture (hints are provided for the more difficult ones). You then put the first letters of all the pictures together in poster number order to make a word. Send your entries in to Kildare4climateaction@gmail.com to be in for a chance of a prize.

The posters will be up on St Patricks day 17/3/21 till Sunday 21/3/21 so there will be plenty of time to complete the poster hunt while staying safe and maintaining social distancing. All entries must be in by Monday 22nd March and winners will be announced by the following weekend.

Participating towns include:
☘️Athy,
☘️Calverstown,
☘️Celbridge,
☘️Clane, Kilcock,
☘️Kilcullen
☘️Kildare
☘️Leixlip
☘️Maynooth
☘️Monasterevin
☘️Naas
☘️Newbridge
☘️Prosperous
☘️Rathangan
☘️Sallins
☘️Straffan
☘️Ballymore Eustace

Kildare Communities 4 Climate Action hopes everyone enjoys the poster hunt and would like to wish everyone in the county a Happy St Patricks Day.
